"Quincy Jones, Bikram Yoga, and the Lesson Behind 'We Are the World'"

We remember and honor the life of Quincy Jones, a true musical genius and a devoted practitioner of Bikram Yoga. Quincy’s contributions to music transformed generations, but few know the story of how deeply he credited Bikram Yoga for his health and resilience.

"Quincy Jones' profound connection with Bikram Yoga is highlighted in Bikram's own book, sharing how the practice became a lifeline for him during his most challenging times."

Years ago, Quincy survived a life-threatening brain aneurysm. In interviews, he spoke openly about how Bikram Yoga became his salvation during recovery, helping him rebuild strength and maintain his focus and energy over the years. He once said, “Bikram Yoga saved my life,” a testament to the profound impact the practice had on him.

Quincy’s friendship with Bikram went beyond the yoga mat. They shared a connection that spanned decades, one that allowed Quincy to introduce Bikram Yoga to some of the most iconic musicians of our time. One particular story Bikram shared with us highlights Quincy’s belief in the power of Bikram Yoga—and the simple wisdom it offered to support his creative genius.

Bikram recalled a time when Quincy was wrestling with a complex creative challenge: he wanted to create a global anthem featuring a multitude of musical legends—Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Dionne Warwick, Bruce Springsteen, and many others. The project, as ambitious as it was, faced an obstacle: every artist had their own vision, their own strong ideas, and reaching harmony seemed almost impossible. Quincy came to Bikram, seeking guidance on how to bring these powerful personalities together.

Bikram’s advice was simple but profound. “Tell them to take off their shoes when they come into your house,” he said.

Though initially puzzled, Quincy embraced this suggestion. It was more than a gesture—it invited the artists to approach the project with humility, respect, and openness. And, as Bikram recounts, this simple act of unity made way for one of the most iconic songs of all time, We Are the World.

As we honor Quincy’s life, let’s also remember the lesson he shared with the world through his love of music and yoga: that in moments of struggle, sometimes a small, intentional act can lead to the greatest harmony.
