All that is Gold does not Glitter

Today, I wanted to share a poem that I have always loved because of its deep and timeless wisdom. J.R.R. Tolkien's words capture the essence of resilience, hidden value, and the potential for renewal, which are all incredibly relevant to our lives and journeys:

"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost;

The old that is strong does not wither,

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

A light from the shadows shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken, T

he crownless again shall be king."

Why is it important to reflect on this? To me this poem serves as a powerful metaphor for life and our journeys.   Think about the lines: "All that is gold does not glitter" and "Not all those who wander are lost." They remind us that true value and purpose aren't always immediately visible. Just because something or someone doesn’t shine on the surface doesn’t mean there isn't immense worth or direction underneath.

Consider "The old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost." This speaks to the resilience we build over time. The experiences and knowledge we accumulate fortify us against life's challenges.

The poem's final stanza, "From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king," tells us about renewal and transformation.   No matter how broken or lost we feel, there is always potential for rebirth and reclaiming our strength and purpose.

Reflecting on this, we can see that our struggles and setbacks are part of a larger journey. They shape us, strengthen us, and eventually lead us to where we are meant to be.

Love your comments and any reflections
