Our Story

Built on practice. Driven by community.

Sumit's Yoga began in Scottsdale in 2000 with a single purpose: to offer something real. Twenty-five years later, that purpose hasn't changed.

"A mind free from all disturbances is yoga."

Where It Started

Something real.

Sumit Banerjee opened the first Sumit's Yoga studio in Scottsdale in 2000. The vision was clear: create a practice that was honest, accessible, and genuinely transformative — not a trend, not a product, but a real method that worked for real people.

Sumit took the precision and heat of traditional Bikram yoga and built something new around it — weaving in breath, music, mindfulness, and a warmth that made the practice feel like community from the very first class.

After 25 years, that original vision has grown into ten locations across three countries. Every teacher is trained by Sumit and certified by Yoga Alliance. Every studio carries the same environment — the same heat, the same care, the same commitment to each student who walks through the door.

The mission has never changed: help people reconnect with themselves, reduce stress, build strength, and live healthier, more fulfilled lives.

What We Stand For

Our core values.

01
Proper Alignment

Every class focuses on correct form first. Proper alignment protects you, deepens the practice, and ensures you're actually getting the benefit of each posture.

02
Spiritual Depth

Yoga is more than exercise. We share the philosophical and spiritual roots of the practice because they're what make the transformation lasting.

03
Caring Environment

Every student deserves to feel welcomed. Our studios are intentionally built to be encouraging spaces — especially for beginners and first-time visitors.

04
All Inclusive Practice

Heated and non-heated classes, multiple styles, all levels. We believe yoga is for everyone, and our class variety reflects that belief.

Founder & Head Teacher

The Founder

If you are on a path to lasting personal growth, Sumit is the teacher for you.

Sumit Banerjee began his yoga journey with a conviction that the practice should be accessible to everyone — not just the already-fit, the already-flexible, or the already-spiritual.

His classes are known for the perfect balance of challenge and encouragement. He brings a burst of positivity that carries students well beyond the practice room, while holding a technical rigor that makes the method effective.

After more than two decades of building Sumit's Yoga, Sumit expanded his vision into Soulful Tribe — an all-inclusive wellness approach bringing together a full variety of heated and non-heated yoga and fitness classes under one philosophy.

All teachers at Sumit's Yoga are personally trained by Sumit and hold Yoga Alliance certification.
