🌟 Welcome to Your Yoga Journey
First — congratulations on starting.
Walking into a yoga studio is already a big step, and we’re honored you chose to begin your journey with us.
Sumits Yoga was created by Sumit Banerjee, who has been teaching yoga for over 25 years and has worked with thousands of students — from complete beginners to seasoned practitioners.
The questions below aren’t rules.
They’re simply observations, based on what Sumit has seen work again and again over the years.
1️⃣ How often should I come to class?
Think of yoga like building blocks.
If you come today and return tomorrow, you don’t start over —
you begin where you left off.
If you take 3–4 days off, the body (and mind) often feel like they’re starting again.
Pro Tip:
Try a 7-day challenge — show up every day for one week.
Even if you lie on your mat the whole class.
By showing up daily, you’re telling your body and brain:
“This is an everyday practice.”
Consistency matters more than intensity.
2️⃣ How hard should I push myself?
It depends on where you are in your practice.
-
If you’ve been practicing consistently, you’ll know when to push and when to soften.
-
If you’re new (or restarting), our advice is simple: be gentle and go slow.
You wouldn’t run 10 miles on your first day back —
you’d build toward it.
Our suggestion:
-
Stay for the entire class
-
Take breaks when needed
-
Skip push-ups if your body asks for it
Progress comes from showing up, not forcing.
3️⃣ When will I see results — and what kind?
Hot yoga can work surprisingly fast when practiced consistently.
Students often notice:
-
Increased strength and flexibility
-
Improved balance and posture
-
Better sleep and digestion
-
A calmer, more balanced mind and emotions
Calorie burn varies widely, but it’s not uncommon to burn anywhere from 250 to 1,400 calories in a class, depending on effort and body type.
In 30 days, if you show up regularly:
-
Your clothes often fit differently
-
Your energy shifts
-
Your relationship with stress changes
Pro Tip:
Do it with a friend — accountability makes a huge difference.
4️⃣ I got a headache or migraine — is it the heat?
Most of the time, it’s not the heat.
Headaches usually come from:
-
Tension in the neck and upper back
-
Holding the breath
-
Dehydration or low electrolytes
Helpful tips:
-
Avoid dropping your head back too far in class
-
Keep the neck long and relaxed
-
Drink electrolytes, not just water
And always take breaks when needed.
5️⃣ Is it okay to take breaks during class?
Absolutely.
Taking breaks is part of the practice.
Yoga isn’t about perfection — it’s about awareness.
Rest when you need to.
Rejoin when you’re ready.
6️⃣ What if I feel sore?
Soreness is normal, especially at the beginning.
The best remedy is:
-
Gentle movement
-
Hydration
-
Coming back to class (yes, really)
Staying consistent helps the body adapt faster.
7️⃣ What should I focus on as a beginner?
Forget flexibility.
Forget how you look.
Focus on:
-
Breathing
-
Listening to your body
-
Being present
Everything else comes with time.
🌱 Final Thought
Yoga isn’t something you do once in a while.
It’s something you return to.
Show up imperfectly.
Show up consistently.
Let the practice meet you where you are.
And if you ever have questions — we’re always here to help.
